Interstate travel for single individuals likely to be known tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to make an announcement on Sunday regarding interstate travel for single individuals.

"There will be an announcement for single individuals tomorrow by the prime minister. So, in the meantime, just wait," said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, during his daily press conference today.

"I am afraid that if I were to announce it (on interstate travel) today, it might be different or jumping the gun before the prime minister.

"Many things will be announced tomorrow, let's just wait for it."

He said should the prime minister not mention anything on it, then he would make an announcement in the single individual inter-state travel issue.

Ismail was responding to a question on when single individuals will be allowed to do interstate travel to meet their families in different states.

On May 30, Ismail had announced that interstate travel for married couples stranded in different states would resume from June 1.

Interstate travel was halted before Hari Raya Aidilfitri during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

However, Ismail who is also the Defence Minister said that interstate travel was still not allowed for the rest of the public, except for work purposes or emergencies, such as the death of a close relative or for medical reasons.

On May 31, he announced that the government would discuss the matter, to allow the same permission for the single individuals to travel between the states.
