RMCO still requires public to comply with SOPs

PUTRAJAYA: The public is reminded to continue exercising self-discipline in carrying out preventive measures against Covid-19 as the country enters the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) tomorrow.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said business operators and customers need to maintain social distancing and good personal hygiene.

He said the police, as well as the task force teams in districts, would focus on standard operating procedure compliance at business premises and public places.

"The focus would be on business premises like shopping complexes and night markets that we have approved (to resume operations) and implementing stringent SOPs," he told a Press conference today.

Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) MCO violators could face a maximum fine of RM1,000 and six months' jail.

Ismail Sabri said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's enforcement officers had conducted 2,369 checks on compliance yesterday.

He said 2,202 premises had complied to the SOPs, 140 were given advice and 27 others were issued warnings for non-compliance.

Ismail Sabri said the enforcement personnel had also carried out price checks on 25 items at 918 business premises including 731 retailers, 159 wholesalers and 28 manufacturers.

Overall, he said the supplies were sufficient and able to sustain the domestic needs and easily accessible.
