PUTRAJAYA: Police nabbed 11 people for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all of them were placed under remand, while compounds were issued to four others for various offences of RMCO's non-compliance.

"Today is the 88th day of the MCO and fourth day of the RMCO. There were fewer number of offences (related to RMCO) committed. I believe this shows that there is greater public awareness on the importance of adhering to its SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

"I would like express my gratitude to all for complying with the SOPs," he told a Press conference today.

Offenders could be compounded or taken to court, with the offence punishable with a maximum penalty of RM1,000 fine and six-month jail under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Ismail Sabri said the police had also reported smooth traffic, despite the increase in vehicles on highways.

"Please drive carefully and abide by all traffic laws to prevent accidents and deaths. Please comply with the SOP set when stopping at the R&R (rest and recreation) areas."

He also reminded the public to practice caution when visiting relatives in their hometowns, especially the elderly and children, who were risk-groups for Covid-19

"We are responsible in protecting them from Covid-19. Community leaders are also responsible in educating and reminding the people to always protect themselves.

"We are the 'frontliners' responsible in protecting ourselves, families, and the community. It is our responsibility to practice self-discipline so that we will remain safe."

Ismail also said that the task force on SOP compliance conducted 68,449 checks nationwide, involving 3,591 teams involving 16,578 enforcement personnel.

"Based on the checks, it clearly shows that monitoring is still being enforced even with many relaxations implemented during the RMCO."

Meanwhile, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), he sai, conducted checks on 83 construction sites yesterday, with 58 of them found to have complied to the SOP, two were non-compliant and 23 were still not in operation.

"To date, CIDB had conducted checks at a total of 7,659 sites nationwide. Of the total, 1,771 sites had complied to the SOP, while 369 others did not comply."

He said 17 had also been ordered to stop work for non-compliance to the SOP, while 5,502 others were not in operation, he said.
