Pasar malam traders can discuss their issues with DBKL [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Pasar malam traders who are finding it difficult to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in running their businesses are advised to discuss the matter with City Hall (DBKL).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the relevant hawkers and traders associations could raise their issues with DBKL, which will bring it to the ministers' special meeting on the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

"It is understood that DBKL had initially held discussions with pasar malam traders and the relevant associations which had complained that they were finding it difficult because they couldn't do business. The government allowed them to reopen subject to strict compliance to the SOPs.

"Now if there are matters troubling them, we ask the associations to revisit DBKL to discuss the issues they disagree on. DBKL will then bring the matter to the special meeting for us to review.

"If DBKL feels there is a need for review and the Health Ministry and National Security Council agree to it, the SOPs will be revisited," he said during a press conference today.

It was reported that an estimated 500 traders at Pasar Malam Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman (TAR) had chosen not to reopen because they feel that some SOPs are too restrictive, such as gating or relocating, social distancing of 1.5m between people and the barring of children below 13.

On the SOP for restaurants, the Senior Defence Minister said though a maximum of four people were allowed to dine at one table, this was subject to the table size.

"If the table is big and can accommodate up to 16 people, for instance, then with social distancing, up to eight people could be allowed to sit at the table."

On car washing services, Ismail Sabri said they were allowed to reopen when the government announced the reopening of workshops for vehicles.

"This included car washing facilities. The SOPs are as usual. Details of the sectors allowed to operate are listed on the National Security Council's website."
