APM deployed to Batu Ferringhi to ensure SOP compliance

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Civil Defence Force (APM) has been deployed to Batu Feringgi to ensure beachgoers' compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Since the Recovery Movement Control Order's (RMCO) implementation on June 10, visitors have been thronging the tourist hotspot.

Northeast district APM officer Captain (PA) Muhammad Aizat Abdul Ghani said that their rescue team will also be monitoring the safety of visitors and provide emergency assistance.

"It is our routine to keep people safe. We also have to (ensure that) SOPs are complied with," he said when contacted today.

The APM will be conducting surveillance from four towers at Pantai Miami, Pantai Belacan, Pantai Bayu Senja and Pantai Golden Sand. They will ensure that SOPs such as social distancing are complied with.

"If we find them flouting the SOPs, we will issue reminders and advise them to adhere to regulations," he said, adding that those who refuse to comply could face action from relevant authorities.

"We are expecting the crowd to get larger since tourism activities have been allowed."
