KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has registered 21 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total tally of infections in the country to 8,556 - 289 of which are active cases.
In a statement, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 21 cases also included two imported cases - one Malaysian and one non-Malaysian, with the remaining 19 made-up of local transmissions of which seven are non-Malaysians, while 12 cases are Malaysians.
Dr Noor Hisham said the seven locally transmitted cases among non-Malaysians were from close contact association with a positive Covid-19 patient, all of whom were housemates in Kuala Lumpur.
"Meanwhile, of the 12 cases involving Malaysians, 10 are in Selangor, one at the detention centre in Seremban, Negri Sembilan and one case in Sabah, who is a patient from a district health office.
"The patient did not show any symptoms and had been treated at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah," he said.
He also said a total of 76 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals as of noon today.
"The total cumulative number of Covid-19 recovery stands at 8,146 cases or 95.2 per cent from the total cases.
"Three cases are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) and there are no fatalities recorded today, leaving the total cumulative death cases in the country at 121 cases or 1.41 per cent," he said.
