Some healthcare travellers allowed to enter country

KUALA LUMPUR: Healthcare travellers categorised under phase 1A and have medical evacuation case, are allowed to enter the country for treatment purposes.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said those in phase 1A were critically-ill patients who need immediate intensive treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Meanwhile, for phase 1B, he said health travellers with serious health problems including under oncology and cardiology were also allowed to get treatment in Malaysia.

"Foreign nationals involved need to obtain appointment letter first from the hospital registered with Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).

"As announced before, the special cabinet ministers meeting has agreed to allow foreign nationals to enter the country for medical purposes or healthcare travellers.

"The first phase of the implementation is being used throughout the Recovery Movement Control Order and international travel restrictions are in force.

"The first phase is only through air travel and one guardian is allowed to accompany the patient. For patients below 12, they are allowed to bring both their parents.

"The guardian should be in the same room with the patient throughout the treatment period," said the Senior Defence Minister.

Ismail Sabri also said foreign nationals who wish to come to Malaysia for treatment need to undergo the Covid-19 screening three days before entering the country's borders and complete the pre-entry conditions such as medical costs payment.

They also have to download the MySejahtera application to their smartphones.

"Upon arriving at the airport, transportation to the hospital should be arranged by the hospital and MHTC," Ismail Sabri said.
