Ting advocates government-funded health checks for seniors in Sarawak

MIRI: Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew has expressed full support for the Sarawak government's initiative to cover the health examination costs for citizens aged 60 and above, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Ting, who is also the assemblyman for Piasau, commended the efforts of the Sarawak Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in prioritising the health of the state's populace.

He encouraged those eligible to register for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) to easily access free health check-ups.

"Health examinations should be conducted annually for both the elderly and the young as they are crucial for maintaining health," he said.

The Kenyalang Gold Card initiative, introduced to enhance the welfare and well-being of the elderly in Sarawak, provides various facilities and benefits such as discounts and rebates from different organisations and commercial sectors.

Ting made these remarks during a brief speech at the distribution ceremony of the Bakul Kasih contribution and Bubur Lambuk Ramadan 2024, as well as the Iftar with Leaders event in Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri on Sunday.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the vital role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the successful implementation of such programmes, highlighting their active participation in the community to assist those in need regardless of the type of aid.
