KUALA LUMPUR: One of two Cambodians who tested positive for Covid-19 upon returning to the kingdom from Malaysia recently is former patient '1051' who had fully recovered from the disease.
The Cambodian tested positive upon arrival in his homeland even though his infection is now inactive.
"(He) was tested using the Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-CPR) test, (but) it is now an inactive virus.
"(He had fully recovered) and was discharged (before being allowed to return to Cambodia)," said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The second Cambodian who tested positive for the coronavirus is a 15-year-old who studied at a tahfiz centre in Malaysia, he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
The two were among 103 Cambodians and two Malaysians on a direct flight from Malaysia to Cambodia on Friday.
Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry was notified by Cambodian health authorities of the positive cases, and close-contact case tracing will be initiated by Malaysian authorities.
He added that the Health Ministry will work closely with airport authorities and the flight operator to identify other individuals on the plane and on the ground who were exposed to the duo.
