KUALA LUMPUR: 12 people participating in activities related to pubs and night clubs were among 77 arrested by the police for violating regulations under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) yesterday.
Senior Defence Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said others arrested for flouting the RMCO included 15 individuals who took part in contact sports and 50 who had breached the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.
"The Compliance Operation Task Force headed by the Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador) conducted 69,023 checks to monitor and ensure that people comply with the SOPs set during the on-going RMCO on July 3.
"4,316 compliance team involving 16,879 personnel conducted inspections on 4,056 supermarkets, 5,546 restaurants as well as 1,775 hawker stalls, 1,586 factories, 3,086 banks and 1,093 government offices.
"The task force was also deployed to monitor the activities at 1,225 land transportation terminals, 260 water transportation terminals and air transportation terminals," he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said the police had also inspected 35,704 vehicles at 66 Ops Benteng roadblocks conducted nationwide on the same day, to prevent undocumented immigrants from entering the country illegally including through areas considered as "lorong tikus" (rat lanes).
"Six illegal immigrants were arrested by the police for offences related to the Immigration Act.
"The government will take stern action against quarters trying to enter the country illegally and our enforcement agencies have enhanced border control including areas considered as rat lanes," he said.
The police had also conducted inspections on 994 Malaysians returning from abroad who are observing home quarantine.
"Checks showed all of them complied with the SOPs while on home quarantine," he said.
On a related matter, Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry had conducted Covid-19 screenings on 10,278 individuals who had entered the country via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) since June 10.
Of the total, only 47 of them tested positive for the virus, and they were admitted to hospitals for treatment.
On other matters, Ismail Sabri said checks conducted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) showed 2,738 construction sites that had resumed operations complied with the required SOPs.
"CIDB had also issued warnings to 495 construction sites while 19 others have been ordered to cease operations due to non-compliance with SOPs."
He added CIDB was collaborating with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to conduct free Covid-19 screenings for all migrant workers in the construction sector in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor.
