GrabMart expands to Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Grab has expanded its on-demand everyday goods delivery service, GrabMart, to Penang, starting with the state's oldest market - Chowrasta market - this Tuesday.

Grab Malaysia Northern and East Coast senior regional manager Teoh Tsin Yok said the Batu Lanchang and Bayan Baru markets would be the next, which would start in August.

"Since March, our market vendors have tripled and the demand has been booming, with one vendor receiving more than 40 orders within 15 minutes.

"This is a testament that our consumers and market vendors are beginning to understand the benefit and convenience of GrabMart to their daily lives and income respectively," he said today.

Teoh also shared Grab's vision to expand GrabMart to all markets in the state.

At the moment, only four vendors would be added in GrabMart for the Chowrasta market, he said.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow believes more and more people would start using GrabMart.

"To support the digitalisation process of Penang's economy, the state government allocates RM30,000 worth of promo code to be used when make a purchase via GrabMart.

"The RM5 promo code will (also) be offered to 6,000 civil servants in Komtar," he said at the same event.

Also present were Local Government, Housing Development and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.
