Victoria lockdown: Malaysians can contact high commission for help

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians living in the state of Victoria in Australia who need urgent assistance following the recent announcement of a stage three lockdown restrictions due to the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in Metropolitan Melbourne have been urged to reach out to the High Commission of Malaysia, Canberra and the Global Malaysian Network (GMN).

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Melbourne said all Malaysians regardless of types of the visa, except student visa holders, should contact GMN on its assistance request at bit.ly/MalaysiansReachOut or email the consulate at mwmelbourne@kln.gov.my.

Malaysians students in Victoria, it said, can contact the Malaysian Students' Council of Australia (MASCA) Victoria at bit.ly/mascaemform or email their enquiries at chairperson@vic.masca.org.au, or deputychairperson@vic.masca.org.au.

"Malaysians can also register with the High Commission of Malaysia, Canberra at https://bit.ly/MYHCRegistration. For students, they can register with Education Malaysia Australia at www.ema.org.au/students.

"To render adequate support to Malaysian students in the restricted postcode areas, please fill in the form attached if you reside in the following restricted postcode. By filling this form, we will be able to reach out to you directly and provide a dedicated contact point to render tailored assistance.

"The restricted postcodes include 3012, 2021, 3031, 3032, 3038, 3042, 3046, 3047, 3051, 3055, 3060 and 3064," it said.

Australian news reports quoted State Premier Daniel Andrews as saying that it had implemented a stage three 'stay at home' lockdown across Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, north of the city for six weeks beginning Wednesday midnight.

He announced that 191 new Covid-19 cases including 154 under investigation were reported today.
