13 remanded, 63 issued compounds for violating RMCO [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: 76 individuals were found to have violated the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and its standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.

Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total, 13 were placed under remand and 63 others issued compounds for offences including patronising pubs and nightclubs (12); attending activities which hindered social distancing (52) and breaching of SOPs (12).

"There are many who still do not comply with the SOPs. Action will be taken against them," he told a press conference today.

He said the task force on SOP compliance, led by the police, conducted 68,485 inspections on July 9 (yesterday).

A total of 4,052 task force teams involving 15,805 personnel conducted checks nationwide.

Checks were conducted at 3,915 supermarkets, 5,846 restaurants, 2,046 stalls, 1,607 factories, as well as 2,620 public markets and agro markets.

Also checked were 3,926 places of worship and 1,615 recreational areas.

Ismail Sabri said the police also mounted 67 Ops Benteng roadblocks nationwide and checked 39,305 vehicles, with 10 foreigners arrested for immigration related offences at these roadblocks.

"Ops Benteng involves the Armed Forces, police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Malaysian Border Security Agency, who joined forces to ensure the country's borders are safeguarded; and to eliminate cross-border crimes and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"The government will take stern action against anyone attempting to cross the border illegally and will not compromise with those involved in the smuggling of illegal immigrants into the country."

Ismail Sabri also said 9,177 sanitisation operations were conducted nationwide under the supervision of the Housing and Local Government Ministry since March 30, covering 134 zones.

"Yesterday, 16 sanitisation operations were conducted. They covered 12 zones in five states, including Sabah (eight), Kuala Lumpur (four) and Perlis (two)," he said, adding that 80 firemen and 128 staff of municipal councils were involved in the operations.
