Tents allowed within mosque compound [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has given the thumbs-up for tents to be erected within the compounds of mosques to cater to the increased capacity of congregants.

"We have already allowed them (mosques) to reopen for prayers. If the space is not enough, we allow them to set up tents only within the gated area," Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at a press conference at the Parliament building, here, today.

On reports of some supermarkets failing to follow standard operating procedures (SOP) such as providing hand sanitiser at the entrance of their premises, the Senior Defence Minister urged such premises to comply with the SOP to prevent them from being compounded.

He said those who still refused to abide by the SOP would have their premises served with a closure order.

"The SOP introduced by the government is that the shop needs to obtain visitors' names and mobile numbers for contact tracing. Secondly, visitors need to get their body temperature checked and lastly these premises need to provide visitors with hand sanitiser.

"Failure to do so will see them facing a RM1,000 compound. The premises should not only think of profit but must also abide by the SOP.

"They need to follow the SOP not only to ensure the safety of the visitors but also that of their workers and staff," he said.

Ismail Sabri added that the SOP also applied to restaurants which did not comply with social distancing.

"Same goes to students in school buses. They also need to provide their names and mobile numbers for easy contact tracing.

'If there is a positive case among the students (in the bus), then we can easily trace them and send them to the hospital for treatment," said Ismail Sabri.
