Continue practising self regulation, Ismail Sabri reminds Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: The people and business operators have been urged to continue practising self regulation including observing social distancing when in public places.

The reminder came from Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) entered its 43rd day yesterday (July 23).

The task force on the implementation of the RMCO which is being headed by the police will intensify enforcements and take action against business premises and people who violate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) enforced during this period.

"Checks by enforcement teams from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on Thursday showed 1,699 of the total 1,745 premises inspected nationwide complied with the SOPs.

"A total of 45 premises were given stern advice and only one premise was slapped with a warning for not complying with the SOPs," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri, who is also the Senior Defence Minister, said checks by the same team showed there was sufficient supply of daily items to meet the demands of the people throughout the RMCO period.

On a related matter, he said the police arrested 277 people for violating the RMCO.

"Of the total, 62 people were remanded, one was released on bail while the rest were issued with compounds," he said.

Starting today, he said all returnees from abroad irrespective if they are Malaysians would be required to undergo the 14-day compulsory quarantine at centres designated by the government.

On a related matter, Ismail Sabri said 1,244 Malaysians abroad arrived in the country at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and klia2 from China, Indonesia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Cambodia, Japan, Laos, Netherlands, India and South Korea on Thursday.

"Of the total, only one person was admitted to the hospital with the rest instructed to undergo compulsory quarantine at their respective homes," he said.

The government, he said, will continue to beef-up enforcement along the country's borders especially at areas identified as rat lanes (illegal routes).

"The police inspected 34,972 vehicles at 67 road blocks nationwide under Ops Benteng on Thursday," adding that the police arrested 10 migrants for committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
