KUALA LUMPUR: 210 individuals were found to have violated the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and its standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.
Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said of the total, 10 were placed under remand, one was released on bail and 199 others received compounds for offences including patronising pubs and nightclubs (72) and other activities that breached SOPs (138).
He said the task force on SOP compliance, led by the police, conducted 66,463 inspections yesterday involving 3,363 task force teams nationwide.
"Checks were carried out at 4,230 supermarkets; 5,883 restaurants; 1,508 foodstalls; 1,398 factories; 3,720 banks, and 835 government offices.
"Also inspected were 1,390 land transport terminals, 379 water transport terminals and 121 air transport terminals."
Ismail Sabri said the police also mounted 74 Ops Benteng roadblocks nationwide and checked 37,281 vehicles, with a foreigner arrested for immigration-related offences.
Ops Benteng involves the Armed Forces, police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, and the Malaysian Border Security Agency, who joined forces to eliminate cross-border crimes and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Ismail Sabri said the government would take stern action against anyone attempting to cross the border illegally and those involved in the smuggling of illegal immigrants into the country.
On sanitisation, Ismail Sabri said 15 operations were conducted yesterday.
"They covered 13 zones in six states, including Sabah (seven), Sarawak (three) and Selangor (two)," he said, adding that 70 firemen and 116 staff of municipal councils were involved in the operations.
He added since March 30, 9,406 sanitisation operations were conducted nationwide under the supervision of the Local Government and Housing Ministry, covering 134 zones.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,631 Malaysians returned home via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 since July 24.
He said all of them were placed at nine quarantine centres in Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Penang, and Johor.
He said the returnees were from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Bangladesh, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia.
Ismail Sabri added the police had conducted 1,776 home quarantine SOP inspections to ensure compliance among those instructed to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine at their respective homes.
In the same statement, Ismail Sabri said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had inspected 32 construction sites nationwide.
Of the total, two construction sites were found not to have complied with the SOPs.
He said from April 20 until yesterday, 3,479 construction sites followed the SOPs, while 568 sites did not and were issued warnings.
"CIDB enforcement officers had also instructed 19 sites to close down for not adhering to the SOPs."
