129 people violated SOPs yesterday, 109 of them fined

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 129 people were detained for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs), yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of these, 20 were remanded, while 109 were slapped with compounds.

He said among the violations were being involved in activities at night clubs or pubs (21 cases), failure to prepare equipment/ entry and exit records (55), failure to wear gloves while cutting clients' hair (one), and not wearing face masks (21).

Others were nabbed for activities involving the presence of many people that made maintaining physical distancing difficult (31).

"The compliance operation task force led by the police conducted 64,058 inspections to monitor and enforce the SOPs.

"A total of 4,875 compliance team comprising 16,801 personnel conducted inspections at 3,900 supermarkets, 5,283 restaurants, 1,681 hawker stalls, 1,523 factories, 3,568 banks, and 1,095 government offices nationwide.

"Also inspected were 1,230 land transport terminals, 235 water transport terminals, and 114 air transport terminals," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri also said that the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had checked 74 construction sites yesterday, involving 52 enforcement personnel.

He said of these, 73 were found to be adhering to the set SOPs, while only one failed to do so and was issued a warning.

On Op Benteng, he said police yesterday inspected 25,368 vehicles in 66 roadblocks nationwide to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country, particularly via rat lanes, or illegal routes.

He said the government would take stern action against any party who tries to enter the country's borders illegally and enforcement agencies will continue to tighten border control, especially at rat lanes.
