All school co-curricular activities allowed as long as SOPs observed

KENINGAU: The Education Ministry does not restrict school co-curricular and sporting activities as long as standard operating procedures (SOP) are observed.

"Although we allow school co-curricular activities to resume, there are guidelines that must be adhered to. So far, the SOPs have outlined clear details and methods on the matter," said Senior Education Minister Dr Radzi Jidin.

"It is important for our students to be able to engage in recreational activities but still comply with the SOPs," he said when met at SMK Gunsanad II, here, today.

Radzi said the ministry had no reason to bar co-curricular activities or oppose suggestions for its implementation as long as the SOPs were in place.

Last month, the government had announced sports and co-curricular activities in schools were to resume as usual beginning Sept 1.

Earlier, Radzi took time off his busy schedule to participate in a friendly football match with the local community and teachers at SMK Gunsanad II.

He said community engagement was part of the education ministry's initiative to foster closer ties with the people and hoped for more of such programmes in the future.
