Schools closed in Lahad Datu to contain Covid-19

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Education department will be closing 30 schools in Silam and Silabukan in Lahad Datu from Wednesday.

Its director Dr Mistirine Radin said the move was to help the district disaster council to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection.

"Those schools will be closed until further notice.

"However, face-to-face teaching and learning process is still ongoing for Form 5 and Form 6 students at those affected schools," she said in a statement.

Mistirine said during the closure, teaching and learning process for preschoolers and students up to Form 4 will be held either online or offline.

"Project based learning method is also welcomed during the period.

"I am hoping that all teachers and students will follow the standard operating procedures to prevent Covid-19 infections," she said, adding few schools in the east coast were closed as of today for sanitisation purposes.

Among them are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ladang Tiger in Tawau; Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kunak, SK Kunak Jaya and SK Kunak 2 in Kunak; as well as 10 schools in Lahad Datu.

Today, Sabah recorded 60 new Covid-19 cases, with a new cluster called Bangau Bangau cluster, in Semporna.

Other clusters from Sabah East Coast are Benteng LD cluster with 624 cases; Pulau cluster (35); and Selamat (25).
