GEORGE TOWN: A missing Dutch national is believed to have lost his way while hiking at Zi Zai Hill, Tanjung Bungah here, on Tuesday evening.
The Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the situation at about 8.24pm.
Operation officer Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said they received information from the victim's friend that he had failed to descend from the hill during a hiking excursion with other acquaintances.
"A search is underway for the victim, in his 30s, carried out by the police and members of the public," he said.
Zi Zai Hill is a 3.4km out and back trail primarily used for hiking and walking and is rated as "moderate."
Those who have hiked up the hill describe it as "one of the steepest hikes, but rewarding at the top, where there is a really cool (temperature-wise) resting area."
Some claim it took them over two hours to reach the top of Zi Zai Hill, as it is quite steep on the way up and down.
