Covid-19: 5 quarantine centres in Perak on standby for operations [NSTTV]

IPOH: Five new quarantine centres in Perak will be activated should the number of Covid-19 cases experience a sharp increase, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said.

The quarantine centres are Institut Tadbiran Islam Perak (INTIM), Institut Latihan Pegawai Am Perak (ILPA), Institut Tadbiran Tanah dan Ukur Negara (INSTUN), Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) in Meru, and Teknologi Pendidikan Negeri Perak (TPNP) in Tasek.

He said Institut Latihan Statistik Malaysia (ILSM) in Sungkai with 90 rooms was expected to be reactivated this Saturday; while two hotels with 128 rooms here are still active for visitors who enter the state from overseas.

"The state government takes this matter seriously. Even though the number of Covid-19 cases reported is high in several areas, but it is still under control.

"The state government is committed and will continue its efforts to contain the spread of the virus especially in Perak," he said in a press conference at his office in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, here, today.

Ahmad Faizal said he believed that having control measures would help reduce the spread of the virus.

"People are urged to remain disciplined and abide by the standard operating procedures and to always wear face masks, wash hands and observe physical distancing," he said.

Perak recorded seven cases between Sept 23 and Oct 6 with the first cluster, Batu, detected in Taiping following a Covid-19 screening test involving detention camp staff and their relatives.

The cluster registered seven positive cases on Oct 5 and they have been admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), here.
