Visit Perak Year 2024 campaign not affected by increase in Covid-19 cases

IPOH: The state government is confident that the Visit Perak Year 2024 tourism campaign will not be affected following the current increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said he was confident that the Health Ministry had made various efforts to prevent the epidemic from spreading further.

Loh added that so far there has been no extreme panic among domestic and foreign tourists following the Covid-19 development in the country.

"Although some take precautionary measures by wearing face masks, not standing too close to other people and so on, there is no worry among tourists about Covid-19.

"I also believe that all tourists, not only from Malaysia but also from abroad, have taken their respective Covid-19 vaccinations," he said.

Loh told reporters after launching Perak GoGoGo, a Mandarin website on Perak Tourism at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here, today. Also present was Perak Tourism general manager, Zuraida Md Taib.

To enliven Visit Perak Year 2024, a total of 120 events are listed in the tourism calendar including district, state and international activities carried out in collaboration with various parties including local authorities, non-governmental organisations and associations.

In the meantime, Loh said that the state government would continue to comply with the guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the ministry in curbing the spread of Covid-19 in tourist hotspots.

It was reported today that the ministry has reassured the public that the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia is under control, with due attention to its mortality rate.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad underscored that the majority of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia exhibit mild symptoms, eliminating the necessity for hospitalisation.

For Epidemiology Week 51 (ME-51) (Dec 17 - 23), the hospital admission rate for individuals with Covid-19 is at 0.5 per cent, and the mortality rate is 0.08 per cent.
