Five new Covid-19 clusters identified

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters, namely the Tujuh Serangkai cluster, Tanamera cluster, Jalan Pantai cluster, Bah Arnab cluster and Bah Bangat cluster.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 22 new cases were detected today for the Tujuh Serangkai cluster in Sabah following close contact screening.

"The index case (Case-11,569) of the cluster underwent a Covid-19 screening tested positive on Oct 5 and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth hospital.

"The ministry had screened 325 people from this cluster and 23 were found positive while 302 were still awaiting results."

For the second cluster in Sabah, the Tanamera cluster, eight new cases were detected after close contact screening.

"The index case (Case-12,868) of the cluster tested positive on Sept 29 and was admitted to Tawau Hospital.

The ministry had screened 13 individuals from this cluster and nine were found positive, one negative and three awaiting results," he said.

The Jalan Pantai cluster in Kuala Lumpur saw six new positive cases after close contact screening.

Dr Noor Hisham said the index cases (Case-14,265 and Case-14,266) of the cluster tested positive on Oct 8 and had been admitted to Sungai Buloh hospital.

"The ministry has screened 15 individuals from this cluster and eight were found positive while seven were awaiting results."

He said the Bah Arnab cluster in Sarawak detected three new positive cases after close contact screening.

"The index case (Case-13,488) of the cluster tested positive on Oct 7 and was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

"The ministry has screened 20 individuals from this cluster and four were found positive while 16 were negative."

Meanwhile, the Bah Bangat cluster in Labuan detected eight new positive cases after close contact screening.

Dr Noor Hisham said the index case (Case-12,377) of the cluster tested positive on Oct 3 and was admitted to the Labuan Hospital.

"Out of the 45 individuals screened from this cluster, nine were found positive, 32 negative while four were awaiting results."

The cause of infection for all clusters was still being investigated.
