Covid-19: Six Taiping schools to close for a week

IPOH: Six schools in the Larut Matang Selama (LMS) District in Taiping will be closed for a week beginning tomorrow after Covid-19 cases were detected involving school staff.

The affected schools are Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) King Edward VII; SMK (P) Treacher Methodist; SMK Bukit Jana; Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Jana; SK Convent Kota and SK Ulu Mengkuang.

State Education Committee chairman Razman Zakaria said the temporary closure of these schools were based on the National Safety Council's (MKN) instructions as a measure to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

"These schools are also located near the detention centre in Taiping that recorded Covid-19 cases," he said when contacted today.

Razman added that parents and guardians were urged not to panic and to strictly adhere to the instructions outlined by the authorities and schools to control the spread of the virus.

"We will monitor this situation from time to time," he added.

Perak recorded 15 cases between Sept 29 and yesterday, with the Batu Cluster detected at the detention centre in Taiping.
