10 new Covid-19 cases in Johor on Tuesday

JOHOR BARU: Ten new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Johor on Tuesday, including one involving a new cluster called Rinting Cluster.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said to date, there were 55 active Covid-19 cases in Johor.

He said the department reported that five of the cases were from the screening of close contacts of Covid-19 patients, four cases from existing active clusters and one from the screening of those returning from a high risk area in Sabah.

"Johor also reported a new cluster, namely Rinting Cluster involving Melaka Tengah district in Melaka and Johor Baru.

"The index case was identified as a Covid-19 positive case detected from pre-employment screening on October 7 that has been admitted to the Melaka Hospital.

"Subsequently, contact tracing were conducted and seven positive cases were detected," said Vidyananthan, adding in total, 10 cases were recorded from the cluster.

He said a total 167 close contacts of the cluster have been identified with 114 tested negative while 53 are still awaiting results.

On the Bakawali Cluster, Vidyananthan said the number of cases remained at 15.

"Until yesterday, a total 357 close contacts from the cluster were identified and tested negative for the virus. The cluster will continue to be under observation until October 28," said Vidyananthan in a statement.
