Covid-19: 660 new cases [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: There are 660 new Covid-19 cases today, exactly matching yesterday's figures, bringing the total number of cases to 17,540.

There are currently 5,768 active cases who have been isolated and are undergoing treatment.

Four more deaths related to the novel coronavirus were reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) as at noon today, raising the death toll to 167.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 233 more Covid-19 patients were discharged today, bringing the overall recovery to 11,605 (66.2 per cent) of the cumulative number of cases.

A total of 108 patients are currently in ICU with 35 of them on ventilator support, Dr Noor Hisham informed via a live broadcast today.

Of the 660 new cases, he said six of them were imported involving two Malaysians and four foreigners detected in Kuala Lumpur. Three cases arrived from Singapore, two cases were detected through vessel sign-on screening in Kuala Lumpur (arrived from Indonesia) and one case was detected through vessel sign-on screening in Labuan (arrived from the Philippines).

"Of the 654 local transmissions, 608 of them are Malaysians and 46 foreigners," he said.

Sabah still has the highest number of daily cases with 429 today, followed by Kedah with 113.

109 of Kedah's 113 were detected in the Tembok cluster (Alor Setar, Pokok Sena and Sungai Petani prisons), while Penang reported 17 cases at its Remand prison and Seberang Perai Prison clusters.

New Covid-19 cases in Klang Valley account for 11.5 percent of the overall daily number, namely, Selangor with 68 cases, Kuala Lumpur with seven cases and one in Putrajaya.

On the four fatalities today, Dr Noor Hisham said the 164th death (case 11,152), was an 80-year-old Malaysian man who was admitted to the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah and had hypertension and gout.

The 165th death (case 17,307) was a 63-year-old Malaysian woman who was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah and had hypertension as well as diabetes.

The 166th death (case 17,308) was a Malaysian woman aged 73, with a history of hypertension and was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sabah.

Meanwhile, the 167th death (case 17,309) was a foreigner aged 47, with a history of hypertension. She was also admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
