Two offshore workers latest to test positive for Covid-19 in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Two oil and gas offshore workers from different companies were the latest to test positive for Covid-19 in Kelantan.

Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin, however, refused to divulge their travel history or the location where they were tested positive.

He said the two were found to have contracted the virus after undergoing screening tests at separate health clinics on Oct 13.

"The two had gone for tests before heading out offshore. They are currently warded at a hospital here. Every offshore worker must abide by a strict standard operating procedure signing in and off their work.

"These are two imported cases. It is believed that they were infected outside Kelantan.

"At the moment, the Kelantan health department is still investigating the cases to find out whether they are linked with any cluster," he said when contacted.

Dr Zaini said contact tracing was underway.

To date, the latest two cases had brought the number of positive Covid-19 cases in Kelantan to 173.

A total of 589 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country as of noon yesterday, pushing Malaysia's total number of cases to 18,129 while 409 more patients have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
