Covid-19: Two more Johor religious schools ordered shut

JOHOR BARU: Two more religious schools here have been ordered to temporarily close following the detection of Covid-19 cases.

The two schools, Sekolah Agama Taman Rinting and Sekolah Agama Tafrijiyyah Taman Universiti, were ordered to cease operations for a week.

State Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Tosrin Jarvanthi said Sekolah Agama Taman Rinting was ordered shut from last Wednesday until next Tuesday; while Sekolah Agama Tafrijiyyah was ordered to close since yesterday.

"So far, three religious schools in Johor Baru have been ordered to close temporarily due to Covid-19, including Sekolah Agama As-Syakirin in Masai, which has been shuttered until today," said Tosrin in a statement.

He said the closures affect 3,229 students, 52 teachers and three clerks.

"The closures are a precautionary measure to stop the spread of the virus following the detection of positive Covid-19 cases in the surrounding areas," said Tosrin.

The state Health Department is reported to have detected positive Covid-19 cases in Taman Rinting, involving the Rinting Cluster, and at SK Desa Skudai near Taman Universiti on Thursday.
