KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases in the country have yet to record a massive drop, instead it climbs to a record high of 869 today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of active cases in the country to 6,886 and raised Malaysia's cumulative tally of infections to 19,627.
A total of 451 cases (51.9 per cent), which is more than half of today's figure, were recorded in Sabah, he said via a virtual press conference streamed via the Health Ministry's Facebook page.
"In the Klang Valley (20.3 per cent of the total cases), 159 cases were recorded in Selangor, 15 cases in Kuala Lumpur and two cases in Putrajaya. These states are under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
"Overall, 224 cases or 25.8 per cent of the total number of new cases involved the Tembok Cluster in Kedah, Penjara Reman cluster and Penjara Seberang Perai cluster. These cases are isolated in the prison and do not infect the community."
All 869 cases, he said, were local transmissions involving 745 Malaysians and 124 foreigners.
From today's total, he said, only four cases returned from Sabah.
Four deaths were reported today, bringing the overall death toll to 180.
This translates to a fatality rate of 0.9 per cent out of the total number of cases.
A total of 302 recoveries were registered today, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 12,561.
Dr Noor Hisham added that there were 91 patients currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care units, with 30 requiring ventilator support.
