Covid-19: Two more Perak schools ordered shut [NSTTV]

IPOH: Two secondary schools in Perak were ordered close for seven days from today until October 26 after its students were tested positive for Covid-19.

The schools are Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato Haji Mohd Taib in Chemor, near here and SMK Raja Lope Nor Rashid in Tanjung Piandang, Bagan Serai.

The closure of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato Haji Mohd Taib was announced by the state Education, Human Capital Development, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and Civil Society committee chairman Razman Zakaria today.

Razman said beside the school, the closure of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lekir Batu 8 in Sitiawan, Manjung for seven days from Oct 14 has been extended until Oct 26.

"This is to allow for the sanitisation process to be carried out at all buildings of the schools," he said.

Meanwhile, the closure of SMK Raja Lope Nor Rashid in Tanjung Piandang in Bagan Serai was announced by the Perak Education Department on its Facebook page.

The closures bring the number of schools ordered shuttered in Perak due to the Covid-19 pandemic to six.

On Monday, three schools in Perak were ordered closed for seven days after several students tested positive for Covid-19.

The schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanah Kebun in Parit Buntar, SK Klebang Jaya and SMK Aminuddin Baki, Chemor, both in Ipoh.

Meanwhile, six schools in Taiping were also closed for seven days since Oct 12 for the same reason.

They were SMK King Edward VII; SMK (P) Treacher Methodist; SK Convent Kota; SMK Bukit Jana, Kamunting and SK Taman Jana, Kamunting, all in Taiping, as well as SK Ulu Mengkuang, Selama, which opened Monday.
