4 bomb threats received by schools in Perak

IPOH: Perak police have so far received four reports of bomb threats from private and special education schools operating in the state.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the threats targeted two international schools in Ipoh and Kampar and two special education schools in Sitiawan and Taiping.

"The latest bomb threat was received this morning at the special education school in Taiping. So far it was negative (no suspicious explosive device was found).

"The investigation is being carried out by Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit. This unit will collect all reports lodged in the country and investigate where the bomb threats are coming from," he said.

Mohd Yusri said this in a press conference at the Perak police headquarters here, today.

He added that police treat the bomb threats seriously and once the threat is received, the buildings must be evacuated and the Bomb Disposal, Special Branch and K9 units would be rushed to schools respectively.

"A thorough inspection will be carried out within the schools' premises. We'll allow everyone back in if no suspicious objects are found and the areas are deemed secure.

"The same standard operating procedures also apply to other premises such as business premises and houses of worship," he added.

On Nov 21, an international school in Meru here received a bomb threat via email at 10.10am.

Yesterday, a special education school in Sitiawan received a hoax bomb threat via email at 11.20am.
