Covid-19: 8 new clusters detected

PUTRAJAYA: Eight new Covid-19 clusters were reported over the past 24 hours in Malaysia, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Three new clusters were identified in Sabah – namely the Basung cluster and Inai cluster in the Kudat district as well as the Tempayan cluster which involved the Kota Kinabalu and Penampang districts.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Basung cluster has 19 positive cases, involving a fishing jetty in the Kudat district.

"The cluster was detected through targeted screenings on those involved in fishery trading. As of noon today, a total of 174 individuals have been screened, in which 19 were positive, 148 negative and seven are still waiting for results.

"The second new cluster is the Inai cluster. The index case, case 17,773, was identified in symptomatic individuals' screenings on Oct 14.

"The case has been admitted to the PPR Taman Ehsan quarantine and low risk centre in Kota Belud. Following that, seven close contacts also tested positive.

"As of noon today, 92 people were screened with eight testing positive and 84 are still waiting for results," he said in his daily Covid-19 press conference, here, today.

The Tempayan cluster has 19 positive cases as of noon with 21 tests conducted.

The index case, case 11,619, who is now being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, was detected in symptomatic cases' screenings on Oct 1.

Meanwhile, another new cluster, the Long cluster, involved the Hulu Langat district in Selangor as well as Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai, and Kepong districts in Kuala Lumpur.

The index case, case 16,746, was identified in symptomatic cases' screenings on Oct 12 and has since been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"As of noon, 301 have been screened, 18 were positive who had close contact with the index case, 260 came back negative and 23 tests are still pending results.

"The index case of the Cahaya cluster, case 20,394, was also detected during symptomatic cases' screenings. The patient is now being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"The said cluster involves the Petaling district in Selangor and the Tampin district in Negri Sembilan. As of noon, 84 people linked to the cluster have been screened with 18 testing positive, three negative and 63 still waiting for results."

He said the Bah Kota cluster was reported in the Sepang district in Selangor and Seremban district in Negri Sembilan.

The index case, case 17, 988, was tested positive on Oct 14 in symptomatic cases' screenings and has been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

A total of 171 have been screened, as of noon, 10 tested positive while 161 are still waiting for their results.

The Melati cluster, he said, involved the Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang district in Selangor. The index patient, case 18,002, now being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, was a symptomatic case who tested positive on Oct 14, Dr Noor Hisham said.

As of noon, he said, nine were confirmed positive from the 24 individuals tested.

The 8th new cluster, Bina Labuan, was reported in Labuan, Dr Noor Hisham said.

"The index case, case 22,943, was detected during pre-admission screening on Oct 21. The case died on the same day at the Labuan Hospital.

"As of noon, 60 people were screened where five were positive and 55 are still waiting for their results," he said.
