EMCO in seven Sabah localities to be extended

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in six localities in Semporna, Sabah will be extended to Nov 6.

Initially scheduled to end Oct 24, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the extension is to allow for a second Covid-19 screening.

The affected areas are Kampung Bangau-Bangau, Kampung Panji, Kampung Air, Kampung Selamat, Kampung Simunul, Kampung Pinggir Bakau in Semporna and Kampung Pangkalan (Kunak).

He said risk assessment conducted by the Health Ministry's staff revealed that Covid-19 is still detected in these areas.

"The extension is to allow for a second Covid-19 screening. However, leniency is given to sundry shops, which can operate from 6am to 6pm to allow residents to buy essential items," he said in a press conference today.
