1,114 new infections, two new fatalities today

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia continues to record four-digit daily Covid-19 cases, with 1,114 new infections registered as of noon today.

This raises the tally of cumulative infections nationwide to 46,209, of which 12,131 are active cases.

Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 1,304 new cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, two are imported, involving a citizen and non-citizen, who arrived from Indonesia and Jordan.

Sabah leads the list of states with the highest number of new cases at 391, followed by Negri Sembilan with 371, Selangor (199), Perak (53), Penang (34), Kuala Lumpur (13), Johor (15), Kedah (10), Labuan (eight), Melaka (six), Kelantan (five), Putrajaya (four) and Sarawak with three cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said out of 371 new cases recorded in Negri Sembilan, 363 are from the Cergas cluster, which was first detected on Nov 3.

Of the 217 new cases recorded in the Klang Valley (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya), 145 are related to clusters.

Meanwhile, he said that 65 cases are related to prisons involving the Tembok cluster (45), Seberang Perai Prison cluster (14), Sandakan Prison cluster (three), Kepayan Prison cluster (two), and GK Tawau cluster (1).

Dr Noor Hisham said that 103 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with 43 requiring ventilator support.

But up to 803 patients were declared recovered and discharged from hospitals today, bringing the tally of recoveries to 33,772.

As of noon, Dr Noor Hisham said two deaths were reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), raising the nationwide death toll to 306 (0.7 per cent).

The deceased (Cases 44,344 and 25,300) are a woman, 78, with osteoarthritis; as well as a 51-year-old man who had hypertension, diabetes, and chronic kidney problems. Both died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said four new clusters were reported in Sabah, Penang, and Kedah in the past 24 hours.

They are the Istimewa and Alila clusters in Sabah, the Assumption cluster in Penang and Kedah, and the Rajawali cluster in Penang.

The Istimewa cluster, involving the Sandakan district, was detected during pre-admission screening on Oct 20 (Case 22,026).

"Close contact screening found 15 other individuals positive for Covid-19. All were admitted to Duchess of Kent Hospital and the low-risk quarantine centre at Sibuga Sports Complex Hall.

"As of noon today, a total of 54 individuals were screened with 16 testing positive, 27 negative and 11 awaiting results."

The Alila cluster in Kota Kinabalu was detected during a symptomatic individual's screening on Oct 5 (Case 23,498).

"Close contact screening found 22 other individuals positive for Covid-19. They were admitted to the low-risk quarantine centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

"As of noon today, a total of 317 individuals were screened with 23 testing positive and 294 awaiting results."

The Assumption cluster involves Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah in Penang and Kulim in Kedah, with the index case detected during self-screening on Nov 11 (Case 42,773).

"Close contact screening found nine other individuals testing positive for Covid-19. They have been admitted to Penang Hospital.

"As of noon today, a total of 66 individuals were screened with 10 testing positive and 56 awaiting results."

The Rajawali cluster, involving northeast and southwest Penang, emerged from the self-screening of a positive case on Nov 6 (Case 39,181).

"Close contact screening found nine other individuals positive for Covid-19. All were admitted to Penang Hospital.

"As of noon today, a total of 90 individuals were screened with 10 testing positive, 15 negative, and 56 awaiting results."

Dr Noor Hisham added that two clusters – Bah Lunas, involving Kulim and Baling in Kedah; and Bah Bemban, involving Dungun (Terengganu) and Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) – have officially ended.
