Sabah's new Covid-19 clusters involve construction workers in KK, Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: More construction workers have been infected with Covid-19 in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.

Today, two clusters involving construction workers were identified with 34 cases recorded so far.

There were 12 cases under the Plaza Cluster linked to the Shore construction site and 22 cases under the Jalan Kalabakan Cluster in Tawau.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for the Telipok Settlement and Kampung Numbak here had been extended until Nov 29.

He said the overall compliance rate among the people in Sabah towards the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Conditional MCO was at 97.8 per cent.

"Three districts have shown highest compliance level — Kinabatangan (99 per cent), Sipitang (99 per cent) and Beaufort (98.5 per cent.

"Districts with low compliance rates are Kota Belud at 96 per cent and Ranau (96 per cent)," he said.

Masidi, who is the state Covid-19 spokesperson, said authorities had mounted 72 roadblocks across the state and inspected 48,557 vehicles.

Out of the total number of inspected vehicles, he said 139 of them had been told to turn back and 18 compounds were issued over various Covid-19 SOP offences.

On food aid, Masidi said, 169,345 food baskets have been distributed until today.

Sabah today logged 381 new cases and three deaths, while 566 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals.
