Covid-19: Health Ministry increased hospital beds 14-fold in Klang Valley

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has added 14 times the number of beds in the Klang Valley to cater to the increased number of Covid-19 patients.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry only used the Sungai Buloh and Kuala Lumpur Hospitals to house Covid-19 patients.

The National Leprosy Control Centre in Sungai Buloh was also used, but only for patients who are asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms.

However, the continuous increase in the cases resulted in these hospitals recording high bed usage rates.

"Until Nov 18, the number of beds for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya has been increased from 345 beds to 4,739 beds," he said in a press conference today.
