Covid-19: Six new clusters detected today

KUALA LUMPUR: Six new Covid-19 clusters were reported in the country as of noon, namely the Bot Biru, Blok 31, Gemilang, Sungai Udang construction site, Chengal and Damar Laut clusters.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Bot Biru and Blok 31 clusters were identified in Tawau, Sabah.

He said the index case (Case-46,546) tested positive during a screening of symptomatic individuals on Oct 15.

"As of noon, 23 people linked to the cluster have been tested with 17 testing positive," he said in a statement today.

Index case for the Blok 31 cluster (Case-52,971) tested positive on Nov 21 following a screening of symptomatic individuals.

"As of today, 26 people connected to this cluster have been screened, with 13 people positive."

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said thr Gemilang cluster involved a logistics company in Johor Bahru, Johor.

The index case of the cluster (case-58,837), he said, was a patient with Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) who tested positive on Nov 24.

"As of Nov 26, 95 people have been screened, with 26 testing positive."

He said the Sungai Udang construction site cluster involved workers at a site in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

"The index case (case-54,604) tested positive on Nov 22. As of noon today, 196 people have been screened and 11 of them are positive."

The Chengal cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said, was detected in Kota Bharu and Machang in Kelantan.

"The index case (case-54,773) is a SARI patient who tested positive on Nov 21. To date, 254 people linked to this cluster have been screened with 15 positive."

He said the Damar Laut cluster involved Timur Laut and Barat Daya districts in Penang as well as Padang Terap in Kedah.

"The first five cases tested positive following a screening for symptomatic individuals between Nov 21 and Nov 25. As of today, 651 individuals were screened, with 13 positive."
