RANAU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has found a solution for internet connectivity problems at Kampung Gusi, here.
The temporary measure was taken after three students fell from a collapsed suspension bridge while accessing the internet for their online studies on Monday.
It is learnt that the bridge is the location where villagers get a better internet connection, especially at night.
Sabah MCMC and Labuan director Izani Othman said they had come up with a temporary solution after receiving support from state-backed company Common Tower Technologies Sdn Bhd to provide broadband service for the village.
The service uses a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology, which is a data transmission used for many types of data management and in high-frequency trading.
VSAT can be used in place of a large physical network as it bounces the signal from satellites instead of being transported through physical means such as through an ethernet connection.
"This initiative is a corporate social responsibility of the company. Its general manager Law Chun Ming has confirmed that the VSAT will be installed by Dec 15.
"Apart from that, three telecommunication towers would also be built near Kampung Gusi under the National Digital Network (Jendela) which were mentioned in tender documents issued by MCMC on Nov 20," he said in a statement.
Izani, who met with Kampung Gusi village chief Galam Abdullah, also wished a speedy recovery to the victims.
