1,309 new Covid-19 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry logged 1,309 new Covid-19 cases today - a slight decrease from yesterday's 1,315, with Kuala Lumpur registering the highest number.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this raised Malaysia's cumulative tally of infections to 64,485, including 11,481 active cases.

Of the new cases, he said only one was imported.

"Kuala Lumpur recorded the bulk of cases (493 or 37.7 per cent of the total new cases), where 473 (95.9 per cent) of them were connected to workplace clusters (construction sites).

"This is followed by Sabah with 290 new cases (22.2 per cent) and Selangor (238 or 18.2 per cent)," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he said 1,333 more Covid-19 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals increasing the number of recoveries to 52,647.

He said 116 patients were being treated at intensive care units, with 42 requiring ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the total death toll from the virus has risen to 357 with three more deaths reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) today, one each in Perak, Negri Sembilan and Sabah.
