Man who tossed step-grandson out window may have mental issues

KUALA LUMPUR: A man suspected of flinging his step-grandson from a fourth-floor apartment unit in Setapak, resulting in his death, is allegedly suffering from mental issues.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said based on tests conducted on the suspect's urine, police found him to be on medication.

"No record on the treatment so far, but the suspect's family and friends confirmed this.

"However, police will conduct further investigations into the claims," he told a press conference today.

Saiful Azly said the 42-year-old suspect was remanded for seven days starting today, to facilitate the on-going investigation.

He said police are also investigating allegations of the suspect's involvement with "deviant teaching".

Saiful Azly said the case is being investigated under Section 302 for murder, Section 307 for attempted murder, and Section 377c for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent of the Penal Code.

He said the suspect's wife, the stepdaughter he had attempted to rape and another child, are currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

"A post-mortem on the 4-year-old boy is ongoing," he said

Yesterday, the suspect was arrested for tossing his step-grandson out of a window from the fourth floor of an apartment in Danau Kota, Setapak.

The incident occurred after the suspect allegedly attempted to rape his stepdaughter, who was the victim's mother, at about 7.40am.
