KUALA LUMPUR: In a heartfelt TikTok video uploaded on Friday, a young man identified as Hafiz or Apiz, shared his emotional journey of battling mental health issues while juggling studies and work.

The video, uploaded under mhdhfzadn93 account, depicts Hafiz's surprise graduation reveal to his parents after keeping his academic achievements and personal struggles hidden for years.

Clad in his graduation attire, he was seen pacing nervously in a room while his friend led his parents into the room with their eyes closed.

As they open their eyes to Hafiz in his cap and gown, emotions overflow as his mother sheds tears of joy at the unexpected revelation of his academic milestone.

As he embraced his mother, he was heard saying, "Its my convocation for my degree,"

His mother responded, "Why didn't you tell us,"

Reflecting on the past four years, Hafiz disclosed the challenges he faced as an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) student, working simultaneously while silently battling major depression disorder, anxiety, and panic attacks.

"It was not easy to keep a secret for four years as an ODL student and work at the same time, but I succeeded.

"Perhaps some will say why didn't I just tell my parents because prayers from parents carry a lot of weight, but there were reasons why it was kept secret.

"I was struggling with my mental health and this is why I kept it all a secret," he said in the description of the video.

At the same time, he said that he also wanted to challenge himself amid all the issues, which he said he had never revealed to anyone before.

"I truly believe that our parents will never stop praying for their kids no matter what happens. But Mak and Abah, just look at Apiz now, I have succeeded in taking control.

"I have proven that I am capable and able to earn a degree scroll for the two of you at 31-years-old."

Expressing gratitude for the support received, Hafiz credited his successful journey to his unwavering determination and the assistance of friends and mentors, notably @gjanzack.
