Spike in Kelantan Covid-19 cases due to lack of SOP compliance

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government has acknowledged that the stubborn attitude of some Kelantanese when it comes to adhering to Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), led to the spike in cases.

This was said by Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

"I was informed by the relevant authorities that many locals still flout the SOPs and the issue is a big problem.

"They claimed that it is also hard to educate members of the public on the impact of the pandemic as well as any move taken to curb its spread.

"This situation will become serious one day and it is also the reason for the number of Covid-19 cases increasing drastically of late," he added.

Mohd Amar said the state government welcomed the move by the Federal Government today to extend the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in four out of 10 districts in Kelantan from Dec 7 to Dec 20.

Kelantan recorded 35 new Covid-19 cases today and all of them were from the new Huma cluster, bringing the number of positive cases so far to 400.

The Health Ministry today decided to lift the CMCO on six districts in Kelantan that ends tomorrow while four other districts had their CMCO extended effective Monday.

The four affected districts are Kota Baru, Machang, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.
