Three new clusters detected, 193 active clusters so far

KUALA LUMPUR: Three new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

With the new clusters, he said 193 clusters were currently active in the country, with 41 of them recording new cases.

He said the top three clusters that contributed the highest number of daily cases were Jalan Harapan prison cluster (98), Jalan Rusa cluster (57) and Bintang cluster.

Jalan Rusa cluster involving Cheras district was among the new cluster detected today, he said.

"Cases from this cluster were discovered during community screenings at the residential area since early December.

"Screenings were conducted when a resident was tested positive at the end of November. A total of 1,267 individuals linked to the cluster have been screened so far, with 129 came back positive," he said in a statement today.

The second new cluster, Pasifik construction site cluster, was detected in Lembah Pantai.

Dr Noor Hisham said cases from the cluster have been detected since Dec 12 following workplace screenings at a construction site.

He added 159 people had been screened from the cluster and 17 tested positive.

"The third new cluster, Maringkan cluster, involves Telupid and Ranau districts in Sabah.

"The index case, case 70,580, was confirmed positive on Dec 5 through the symptomatic individual screenings.

"So far, 93 people have been tested, with 11 were positive," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said six clusters had ended today, namely, Benteng PK cluster, Kapas BJ cluster, Garden cluster, Bah Tropicana cluster, Bah Bercham cluster and Mentari cluster.
