Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang closed to traffic due to landslide

GUA MUSANG: Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang was closed to all traffic following minor landslides and a mudslide along the stretch today.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said there was no report of casualty in the incidents which occured between KM60 and KM62 of the stretch.

"The incident happened around 3.30pm due to continuous rain since this afternoon," he said.

He said the incident also caused the road to be inundated between 0.35m and 0.76m of water.

"Relevant authorities have begun conducting repair works at the affected areas," he said.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) forecasted torrential rain to continue to pound the East Coast which is currently flooding.

The department has issued a red alert warning for Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang as well as Mersing, Johor. Torrential rain is expected to continue over these areas till tomorrow (Jan 4).

At the same time, MET Malaysia forecasted heavy rain to continue over the states of Terengganu (Kemaman), Pahang (Raub, Bentong and Bera), Johor (Segamat and Kluang) until Tuesday.

The department has also released a yellow alert for Kelantan as well as Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun in Terengganu as well as Cameron Highlands and Lipis, Pahang. Heavy rain is expected to occur in these areas until Tuesday.
