Ipoh subdistrict to be put under CMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ipoh subdistrict will come under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) for two weeks, starting tomorrow (Jan 7), following a surge in Covid-19 cases there.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 106 Covid-19 cases were recorded throughout the city, of which 89 cases were local transmissions recorded in the last 14 days.

"The Health Ministry has also confirmed some active clusters involving factories which are concentrated in several industrial areas in Ipoh with the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

"The implementation of the CMCO will allow the ministry to conduct targeted screening and reduce movement between the community in the area," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the government has also agreed to extend the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at the Westlite workers' hostel in Taman Perindustrian Tampoi Jaya, Johor Baru, starting Jan 9 until Jan 22.

The EMCO for the hostel was initially slated to end on Jan 8.

"Currently, the ministry has conducted 1,303 screenings and of the total, 55 Covid-19 cases were recorded.

"However, the ministry confirmed the Covid-19 transmission rate among the hostel residents is still high," he said.
