Teachers, lecturers returning to Sabah and Sarawak to take Covid-19 test

KUALA LUMPUR: Teachers and lecturers returning to Sabah and Sarawak from the Peninsular and Labuan to resume duty when schools and higher education institutes reopen later this month, will be required to take Covid-19 swab tests.

Announcing this today, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry would bear the cost for the screenings.

"Those returning to Sabah will have to take swab test three days before their departure, while those returning to Sarawak will have to take swab test either before their journey or upon their arrival at the airport in Sarawak.

"Returnees to Sabah are not required to undergo mandatory quarantine. However, returnees to Sarawak are required to undergo mandatory quarantine at Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) or at any other places deemed suitable by the state government.

"The cost for the quarantine will be borne by the Sarawak state government," he said.

Earlier on Dec 31, 2020 Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that all educational institutions registered with the Education Ministry will reopen on Jan 20, 2021.
