No interstate travel nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Interstate travel will be banned nationwide for two weeks beginning Wednesday.

This was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a special address aired live today.

For Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Melaka, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan which will be placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO) beginning Wednesday, also for two weeks, interdistrict travel will not be permitted.

For MCO states and federal territories, roadblocks will be mounted at all state and district borders starting 12.01am Wednesday.

Muhyiddin said this was to ensure the people complied with the interstate and interdistrict travel ban following the implementation of the MCO.

"Roadblocks will also be mounted at main roads and movement is limited to 10-km radius (from one's place of residence).

"Only two persons from each household are allowed to leave the house and travel in one vehicle for the purpose of buying necessary items from the nearest supermarkets and grocery shops.

"Any individuals who violate the restrictions can be issued a compound to a maximum of RM1,000," Muhyiddin in his special address today.
