Hamzah Zainuddin is third minister to test positive for Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the ministry said Hamzah underwent Covid-19 screening on Jan 11.

"Following the screening test, the ministry was informed earlier this morning that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin tested positive for Covid-19. The minister will be placed under quarantine following all guidelines of Covid-19 infection set by the Health Ministry.

"He has apologised for any difficulty arising from his diagnosis," the statement said.

The statement also urged any close contacts of Hamzah between Jan 8 to Jan 11 to head for screening tests at the nearest health clinic.

The ministry added that even though placed under quarantine, Hamzah will continue to monitor and ensure that all matters related to the ministry will operate as usual.

Hamzah is the third member of the cabinet to have tested positive for Covid-19 after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

Mustapa tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday night while Rina tested positive on Jan 11. They were admitted to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Baru and Sungai Buloh Hospital, respectively.
