Private kindergartens can operate during MCO to help working parents

KUALA LUMPUR: Private kindergartens have been given the green light to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period in order to allow working parents to send their children, if needed, says Senior Education Minister Dr Radzi Jidin.

Radzi said given that the latest MCO has allowed certain sectors to operate, parents living within MCO areas will have the option of sending their children to kindergarten.

"It is up to the parents to send their children. We will leave it to them to decide.

"The ministry will constantly monitor these kindergarten to ensure that both the staff and management are in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)," he said.

On tuition centres, Radzi said only those within MCO areas are required to suspend classes.

He said the ministry will allow teachers to organise tuition classes on school grounds for students facing major examinations.

"We do not allow tuition centres to operate within MCO areas but they are allowed to hold classes if they are placed under Recovery MCO and Conditional MCO areas," he said.
