Interstate travellers led to 708 Covid-19 cases in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: A total of 708 Covid-19 cases recorded in Kelantan were caused by interstate travellers.

Kelantan health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the figure was recorded between the second wave of the pandemic on Sept 23 last year and yesterday.

He said the cases were recorded from the 18 clusters reported state-wide.

"Kelantan has 18 clusters so far and we have tallied 708 cases since September last year. Based on our records, interstate travellers lead to new clusters to emerge."

He said three of the 18 clusters were originally from outside Kelantan. They are the Dataran Utas cluster, Cergas cluster and Kaya cluster.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday said Movement Control (MCO) would be enforced in Kelantan from today until Jan 26 following the surge in Covid-19 cases.

He said since Jan 10, the daily average Covid-19 cases in the state had seen an increase of between 80 and 100, while active cases saw a surge within 14 days from 328 to 891 cases (as of Thursday).

Meanwhile, the first day of the MCO saw many restaurants and food stalls closed and some only opened to provide take-aways and deliveries.
